SOMATIC EXPERIENCING® (SE®)

Somatic Experiencing® is a body/mind oriented approach to healing trauma and other stress situations. The work of Dr. Peter A. Levine, it results from his study of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices and his 45 years of clinical application. SE™ releases shock trauma and PTSD, as well as developmental trauma and attachment disorders. It is easily applicable to couple and family therapy work.  It is also a method that allows people to learn to self-regulate.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®  allows to quickly assess if a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses and helps them resolve these fixed patterns. It facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. It is a gentle and compassionate technique that guides clients to approach difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions a little bit at a time, without being retraumatized.  SE® can be integrate in all methods and most healing professions including mental health, medicine, physical and occupational therapies, bodywork, addiction treatment, first response, education, and others.

Gina Ross, MFCT, is Founder/President of the International Trauma-Healing Institute USA and (ITI-Israel.
